Nowhere else in Germany live as many Japanese people as in Düsseldorf – and this must be celebrated! On May 29th, Düsseldorf is for the ninth time transformed into a Japanese city, in honour of its Japanese citizens. A multifaceted cultural programme attracts to the Rhine, where thousands of Manga fans, dressed up as comic figures, make the Japan Day the most important meeting point of their scene in Europe. Other highlights are ten hours of stage shows, free-of-charge join-in activities and an extraordinary fireworks display. Hundreds of thousands of visitors are expected to come to the popular meeting festival again this year.
Numerous action and information stalls between Old Town and Rhine embankment convey a realistic impression of Japanese culture. Far-eastern skills such as Origami, Ikebana and calligraphy can be admired and tried out. Samurai present their magnificent armours. Japanese sports such as Sumo, Judo and Karate as well as Kyudo archery will be demonstrated. At the grand finale, pyrotechnicians from the Far East will ignite the biggest Japanese fireworks display outside of Japan. Sure to make many eyes sparkle!
