Experience Japanese culture
Every year Japan Day gives the Rhine embankment promenade a flavour of Japan. The varied programme taking place on stages and at demonstration and sales stalls give visitors a look at many facets of Japanese culture. The grand finale is a traditional Japanese fireworks display. During the anniversary year, events on the programme are decentralised – taking place in different locations, some in virtual format, and spread across several months. The first exhibitions, concerts and film screenings, along with an online manga drawing competition, will start the ball rolling in May. Further events and activities will take place throughout the summer and autumn, offering insights into Japan’s diverse culture. They include the Dokomi anime and Japan Convention which has been postponed to 7–8 August. This year’s fireworks display is planned for autumn.
